A gripping historical fiction infused with elements of magical realism, 'The Vanishing' was launched in the fall by Library Tales Publishing in December of 2022. The book unravels the tale of an unseen girl who embarks on a poignant journey of retribution and salvation to rescue her best friend from the chilling grasp of Nazi Germany.

As of yet, the production lineup for the adaptation remains undisclosed. However, Deadline reports that the agreement between 'The Vanishing' and 26th Street Pictures was solidified significantly prior to the WGA strike.

Oscar-nominated director Chris Columbus, renowned for classics like Adventures in Babysitting, Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, and numerous Harry Potter films, co-founded his production banner in 1994, alongside Michael Barnathan and Mark Radcliffe. Originally christened 1492 Pictures,

Jay Lender, a two-time Emmy nominee lauded for his work on Nickelodeon’s animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, is set to script the adaptation. He has previously adapted Slater's 'Fun & Games' and 'Sparks' for the screen, and served as the illustrator for Slater's recent picture book, 'Poopy McPooFace'. His notable work also includes directing two seasons of Disney Channel’s Phineas and Ferb.

Over the past two decades, David Michael Slater has authored nearly 30 books, catering to audiences of various ages, across fiction and nonfiction genres.
