New York publisher Library Tales Publishing is pleased to announce its upcoming book, “The Fix”, by Arje Shaw, which will be available during its national launch on May 10th, 2011 in bookstores everywhere.

“The Fix” is the story of Eddie Parker, a young refugee from Russia, who arrives in New York City in 1949 from a German displacement camp. He and his family come to start their new lives in America. But there was no “gold in the streets,” mom and pop didn’t love each other, and his father abandoned the family. Eddie grows up quickly, becoming the ‘man of the house’ at sixteen — dropping out of school, gambling and drinking. He becomes a pool hustler at Trios Pool Hall, the training ground for his career as a bookie for the local Mob boss. But Eddie overextends, putting his life on the line. The only one who can bail him out is his son, a High School basketball star. But things go horribly wrong when his plan backfires and puts Eddie on the run.

The language sings, the dialogue sizzles and the author plays words, rhythm and cadence like a finely- tuned instrument, The Fix promises thrills and twists from page one, and as the plot develops the reader finds that it delivers. Full of fascinating characters and an exceptional hero, the story keeps the reader wanting more. This is the story of a man coming to terms with himself, a compelling work of introspection and humor. Beneath the linguistic playfulness and witty banter, the author’s true compassion for his characters shines through. The result is an edgy, hard-driven tale seeking the answer to Eddie Parker’s perennial question: “Who am I and how did I get here?”

Author Arje Shaw’s works include The Gathering (Broadway, Off-Broadway), “Magic Hands Freddy”, “A Catered Affair”, “Moolah”, and “The Final Rub”. Meet Mr. Shaw at his book signing event at Borders on Columbus Circle at 7pm on Tuesday, May 10th. For more information, visit www.TheFixNovel.com.
